When I was in high school birthdays were mostly celebrated in person or with legitimate phone calls, but other methods for birthday wishes included:
Text messages sans emoji, but signed with a name or song lyric signature, if your friends were lucky enough to have a cell phone
MySpace, if you had the right Top 8
Facebook, if your friends were old enough and had already had profiles
But here we are in 2017 and oh, how the times have changed. In this day and age, did you really have a birthday if no one posted about it on insta? The question remains unanswered, but just in case here’s what I posted to Instagram, because today is my little sister’s birthday!!
When I was 7, I touched my mom’s belly and told her I was going to have a little sister. Not knowing she was pregnant yet, she insisted I was mistaken. I think that deep down I knew the gift God had for me, the prayer that he was quietly answering.
What I didn’t know then was how much love I would have for this little sister, how much she would change everything about my life and influence the decisions I would make in the future, what an amazing young woman, sister, and friend she would become, and how proud I would be of her 18 years later.
Cara, I love you the most, and I’m incredibly grateful that I get to be your sister and that God gave me the gift of getting to walk alongside you these 18 years and those to come. You are gracious and humble, kind and strong, full of laughter and joy, beautiful in every way, and admittedly way more intelligent and way faster on the track than I was at your age.
All that to say, Little Baby Cara you’re my favorite and I’m wishing you the happiest of birthdays!! Enjoy your golden birthday and own this golden year!!
